Yeah, we know. April 1st. But babes, this one is not a drill. NASA actually launched Artemis II yesterday evening — humanity’s first crewed lunar mission in over 53 years — and we are absolutely losing it over here on Planet Lilac.

“Let’s go to the moon!” — Commander Reid Wiseman, approximately two seconds after liftoff. Same, Reid. SAME.
Four astronauts — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canada’s Jeremy Hansen — blasted off from Kennedy Space Center at 6:35 PM ET aboard NASA’s Orion capsule. They’re not landing on the moon this time. Think of it as the ultimate cosmic road trip: they’ll fly 4,000 miles beyond the moon, slingshot around it, and splash down in the Pacific Ocean about 10 days later. A quick “out-and-back” that just happens to go farther than almost any humans in history.
Oh, and this crew? Historic. First woman, first person of color, and first non-American to fly on a lunar mission. The babes are inspired and we don’t make the rules.

Didn’t say a word. Just stared out the window at the moon for like 45 minutes and wrote three new songs about it. We assume at least two are about Jasmine.

Already trying to convince everyone we should do a live set on the moon. Said the acoustics would be “out of this world.” She’s not wrong but also the logistics are insane, babe.

Wisteria
Filled three pages in her journal about it before breakfast. Is now researching every moon mission since Apollo. Do not interrupt her. She has a purple pen and she’s not afraid to use it.

Violet
Was late to the watch party because she lost track of time — obviously — but showed up right at liftoff eating a snack and said “did I miss it?” Girl. GIRL.

Watched it live, cried a little, won’t admit it. Said something about how Planet Lilac has always known the moon was worth the trip. Then went back to drumming. As one does.

One fun chaos detail for you: astronaut Christina Koch’s toilet broke within minutes of reaching orbit. NASA had to tell her to use a backup bag system while they figured it out. This is the most relatable thing to ever happen in space and we respect her deeply for it.
If the mission goes as planned, Artemis IV will put boots on the lunar south pole in 2028. NASA’s long game is a permanent moon base with Mars to follow. We’re living in the era of return and babes, we are HERE for it.
Planet Lilac has had its eye on Earth’s moon for a long time. 🌙
We’re glad y’all are finally catching up.
OUT OF THIS WORLD isn’t just a tagline. It’s a direction.
